living area
The living/dining room is a cozy space, meaning it's not huge, but it's pretty and comfy.
There's a big, flat screen TV hidden in an "antique" cabinet with DVD/CD player.
There is a double sized, fold out couch here which sleeps two very comfortably. One interesting feature: the ceiling is quite low, about 7 feet, but is has the feeling of a European coffee house.
It's really, very cute. The living room opens into the kitchen. There is also a brick-floored computer/piano room off the living room.
bed and bathroom
Here's the unique thing about this 100 year old house; the bathroom on the first floor features a toilet in a little space closed off by a curtained french door. The bathroom sink is located in the pass-through between the kitchen and laundry room.
There is a non-working bathtub in the toilet area. The laundry room has a washer and dryer, and this is where the iron, spiral staircase takes you up to the second floor.
It's kind-of small, but easy to navigate. On the second floor is a full bath with a jacuzzi tub. Our teenage son has a small sleeping alcove just off the staircase landing, but this room isn't available for guests.
In between the stairway landing and the master bedroom is a large room that we call the playroom, where our son hangs out, watches TV (both our TVs have all the cable channels, HBO, Cinemax, etc.) and plays guitar and this is where a futon couch is located that is double-sized but really suitable either for two kids or one adult. It's definitely a teenager's space complete with rock posters and the like.
Note: this room doesn't provide much privacy, but is especially good for younger ones, as the master bedroom is right next to it. The master bedroom is, of course, private; sunny, pretty and spacious with antiques and a super comfortable bed with a brand new mattress. (oh, and the ceilings are much higher) |
kitchen
The kitchen is quite newly renovated and features a spanish tile floor and pale wood cabinets, plus a clean, modern stove and fridge, toaster oven and microwave. Very roomy.
besides
We also have tenants who live in a duplex apartment above ours. They are super quiet, but sometimes you'll hear a little movement above our 2nd floor.
Please keep in mind that this home is quite old, and so it is not picture perfect in every way. We think of it as a little rustic, but we keep it super clean. We are artists and you will see artwork done by family and friends on the walls and placed here and there.
It is our home, so the feeling is homey. It is not a luxury property but it is truly a beautiful space. I think it is not ideal for very young children, because of the spiral staircase and the fact that it's not baby-proofed, but fine for kids 5 and older.
Also, if you are staying more than two days, we do ask that you provide our kitties with a little food in their bowls when needed.
They don't require anything else as the water is self-filling and the cat box will be cleaned before your visit and is kept out of site and is without any detectable odor. Pictures and map will be added soon, but if you want to see them right away, just send me an e-mail. |
