LINCOLN SQUARE

An attractive choice of affordable and gourmet dining, high-end shopping outlets, world-class concert halls, theatres and operas are what you get by staying in Lincoln Square. This alone makes the neighbourhood a great base from where to explore the rest of New York. Quick and easy transport services link this Broadway quarter to nearby Manhattan areas. Central Park and the rest of the theatre district are just around the corner.

This clean, safe and comfortable area is populated by singles and young families drawn here by the attractive housing options and fantastic cultural life. Although this is not the most expensive neighbourhood in New York property and accommodation prices are among the highest, while celeb residents are not uncommon. On the whole, however, staying here means that you will mingle with educated, well-off professionals. Newly-constructed luxury tenement towers, amazing amenities and the top notch Broadway entertainment at Lincoln Center are the major allure.

The Lincoln Center is a major attraction not only in the neighbourhood but in the whole of New York. Manhattan’s foremost hubs of culture and performing arts, the Lincoln Centre comprises 29 performance venues located in several palatial buildings. Broadway shows, music and dance events are staged almost daily by world-renowned performers. The Metropolitan Opera House is a must-visit for anyone who loves opera. In addition to being a premiere venue for staging by world-class operas, the house is also a marvellous example of modern architecture with high arched windows from ground level to the rooftop.

Those with a more varied music taste can catch performances at the Juilliard School. This leading music academy has trained and continues to produce world-class talent who host a regular programme of vocal performances, jazz and chamber music at the school’s numerous stages. The nearby David H. Koch Theatre, home to the New York ballet Company, is used solely for ballet and dance performances. The Lincoln Center Theatre houses several stages with capacity for well over 1000 visitors who come here to indulge in Broadway theatre shows. Visitors on a budget should check out the programme at Damrosch Park. In summer this open-air amphitheatre stages free outdoor events.

Finding a place for pre-show dinner or after-show drinks is no challenge at all. Along Broadway you will find lots of restaurants, cafes and bars where to enjoy a proper meal or simply catch your breath and grab a bite in between shopping sprees and sightseeing. The choice is unlimited with dozens of exciting dining places. Familiar dishes served with a twist and amazing mixtures of different ethnic cuisines, all presented by top chefs allow New Yorkers and visitors to indulge their culinary appetites or impress loved ones. The best about it is that you can always find anything to accommodate your budget from cheap eats to gourmet treats.

Columbus Circle a major traffic junction on the border between Lincoln Square,  Central Park, Hell’s Kitchen and the Theatre District attracts lots of visitors and locals with a high concentration of dining and shopping outlets. These are mostly luxury boutiques, designer shops and gourmet restaurants but if money is no object then you should visit and indulge yourself in a shiny new buy or a nice dinner. The majority of shops and restaurants are located inside the Time-Warner Center, a complex of several interconnected glassy skyscrapers. Beside shopping malls and boutiques the centre houses Jazz at Lincoln Centre – a 1200-seat music venue ideal for catching concerts.

In Lincoln Square you can also boasts a large number of cinemas and multiplexes but the best about the neighbourhood is its proximity to Central Park. A short stroll will allow you to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city and enjoy the tranquillity and fresh air of this fantastic park. You can practise numerous sports, have a picnic with your family or simply explore local landmarks.
