New York New York so good they names it twice, New York is truly one amazing city and is really which never sleeps and is one city which has everything in the world on offer, every type of food, clothes, electronics, fun, entertainment, sex, drugs (if you know where to go|) and plenty of rock and roll.

Besides being the present world's financial centre, this little island offers world famous restaurants, museums, amazing architecture, many famous masterpieces as well as many of the world's organisations such as the UN and the World Trade Organisation plus a mix of people from every corner of our planet all combined makes New York one of the world’s greatest cities if not the the greatest on Earth.

New York's crazy frantic pace and its alluring promises of ‘Streets paved with gold" draws tourists, X-pat's and wannabe's from all the world over, who come in search of a piece of the American dream.

New York's population of over eight million people speak a total of over 80 language, English and Spanish being the main two with many signs in English and Spanish.

With over 19500 restaurants, 150 museums, more than 12,000 stores bursting with the world's top brands as well as bargains from around the globe, New York really does have something for everyone.

To escape the 24-hour mayhem of the cities' hustle and bustle most New Yorkers  head for Central Park any chance they get, an oasis away from all the madness. Central Park is simply an amazing place to go for a break and boasts all sorts of things to do and see including cycling, boating, eating and even a zoo. You can sit watching at the boating lake or rent out your own boat and try your hand at boating or rent a full size one and go real boating on the large lake in the middle of the park. The zoo is also pretty interesting as it's not your average zoo and kids will love it as there is a large children's zoo also where children can feed and pet the Animals.

New York’s location at the mouth of the Hudson River and and the Atlantic Ocean reflects the city’s importance as a port, this is the point at which millions arrived as immigrants to the USA.

The first settlers were Dutch arriving around the 1620s and named the city New Amsterdam and then in the mid 1660's the English arrived and decided they did not like the Dutch name so changed it to New York and it stuck.

The rapid expansion from south to north along the island drew immigrants from the four corners of the earth, all through the 19th and early 20th centuries and millions arrived which saw the beginning of distinct ethnic ghetto's like little Italy, The Irish "Hells Kitchen" as well as citizens from every other country making New York a melting pot of the entire world and all within its 23sq miles.. This cultural diversity makes New York what it is today  and the cities history contributes to its importance as a multicultural capital.

Today New Yorkers has recovered from the after affects of  the events of 11 September 2001 (It's just the Government who have not). But losing the cities two tallest sky scrapers has left a big hole in more ways than the one at ground zero. But with tourists visiting in larger numbers than ever (52 million in 2005) New York is looking towards a bright future. The only dark cloud on the horizon is a possible repeat of what happened at New Orleans, we we don't like to think of such things.

With most of the buildings damaged now either refurbished or torn down and rebuilt the area is looking more like it's old self except for the large ground zero hole. Plans for memorialising the World Trade Center towers are advanced and any building which is finally built will memorialise them as well as revitalising nearby neighborhoods has been a huge success .

New York is simply an amazing place to visit any time of year, although it is particularly pleasant during Autumn and Spring , when temperatures are just about right at around 20ºC (70ºF).The winters tend to be unpredictable, you can get all sorts from freezing wet days to a sun and no clouds in the sky day but bitterly cold, while New York summers can be killers, hot and hotter which can last well into September but with everywhere air-conditioned it's not difficult to survive, but god help our planet.
