Tribeca Accommodation NYC | information about Tribeca Area New York

TRIBECA

The cobblestone streets and the former industrial buildings which now contain expensive loft apartments give Tribeca a unique old-time charm unseen elsewhere in New York. While the area has quite a few celeb residents   the majority of locals are professionals, families with children and artists. Yet, the neighbourhood is anything      but suburban or sleepy. At night Tribeca comes to life as locals and visitors flock to the lively bars and   restaurants.

Not so long ago the neighbourhood was an industrial precinct but in the 60s and 70s the former industrial buildings were repurposed into lofts gradually transforming the area into a residential neighbourhood. Initially the area attracted artists who set up studios inside the light and airy lofts. Today the expensive properties, the safety and the excellent schools draw numerous affluent families to the area. Many businesses in the area cater to the needs of the families who make up the majority of local residents. Beside trendy places you can easily find restaurants and cafes with child-friendly facilities and offers. This makes Tribeca an excellent choice for parents who travel with their kids and seek comfort but still want to have some fun on their own.

In terms of dining and entertainment Tribeca offers unmatched variety. Foodies will love the wide choice of high-end restaurants. Top chefs, elegant decors, surprising food and exciting service – you can get it all in Tribeca. The area is also famous for some of the best Japanese restaurants downtown, like the legendary Nobu and Nobu Next Door. Then there is the Tribeca Grill, owned by Robert De Niro. Take your dinner here and you will spot a celebrity or the star owner himself dining at a nearby table.

In the light of all this, it is hardly surprising that at night the discerning crowd flocks to Tribeca for fine dining and a bit of entertainment. Lots of stylish, trendy DJ and live music bars and clubs give you a good choice of entertainment. You can listen to live music, dance, or sit over a drink and chat the night away.

For a former industrial district the neighbourhood offers visitors plenty of outdoor activities as well. The Washington River Park is a small oasis of greenery where you can enjoy a game of basketball or watch your kids frolic at the playground. On sunny days you can eat outside – along Greenwich street you will find plenty of cosy outdoor cafes. The Hudson River park which starts at the southern tip of Manhattan and meanders along the river banks is excellent for riverside strolls and taking in beautiful views. Various recreational activities, sports and music events are held in the park almost every day.

The area is chock-a-block with boutiques and designer shops where you can try on the latest garments by American and overseas designers. Stroll down Franklin street and peek into the numerous galleries, gift shops, boutiques and antiques stores or simply pop into one of the many bars for a drink.

In April Tribeca hosts its very own film festival that was founded in 2002 by Robert de Niro. In one decade only the Tribeca Film Festival has managed to become a popular local event and a major platform for showcasing works by emerging and established talent. During festival days you can catch exciting independent features, short films and documentaries across different genres.

Should you get bored you can always explore nearby neighbourhoods. Broadway, the theatre land of New York, marks the eastern border of Tribeca and continues north into arty Soho. There is always plenty to see and do here – catch the latest shows, visit art and performance events or simply sit at one of the trendy bars, sip a cocktail and watch the crowd go by.
